Rebates Explained
Investing in solar and energy efficiency upgrades is more affordable than ever, thanks to government-backed rebates and incentives.
Types of rebates available
We ensure you maximise your available rebates, reducing upfront costs and improving your return on investment. With these rebates we have delivered commercial solar and energy projects achieving ROI between under 3 years and 5 years.
STCs
Small-scale Technology Certificates
Solar systems 100kW or less
An upfront discount on solar installations under 100kW, based on the system's expected generation over 10–12 years.
Worked example
45kW system, commercial office
Generated around 500 STCs at approximately $38 per certificate.
$19,000 upfront
LGCs
Large-scale Generation Certificates
Solar systems over 100kW
Ongoing revenue rather than an upfront discount — LGCs are earned and sold annually based on how much energy the system generates.
Worked example
150kW system, warehouse
Around 210 MWh a year = 210 LGCs annually, at approximately $50 each.
$10,500 a year — $105,000 over 10 years
VEECs
Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates
Solar over 100kW and heat pump hot water upgrades
Incentivises energy efficiency upgrades. The rebate is calculated on the carbon emissions avoided.
Worked example
250kW system, plastics manufacturing plant
Generated around 3,500 VEECs over its lifetime at an estimated $65 each.
$227,500
Certificate values fluctuate with the market, so the figures in these examples are indicative of past projects rather than a quote. We’ll confirm the current position for your site.
VEECs for heat pump hot water
Switching from electric or gas can qualify too.
Replacing traditional electric or gas water heating with a heat pump can also attract VEEC rebates, making the upgrade considerably more affordable.
Example: a 2,000L heat pump system installed for a hotel, replacing an old electric water heater, generated 500 VEECs at around $65 each — a total rebate of $32,500.
Maximise your rebates
Navigating rebates is complex. We take care of it.
